Magpies Finally Assured Safety

After a tense two week wait Magpies can finally relax as they cannot now be relegated. The key result came with Fowlmere Metals defeat at home to Ashwell which now leaves them unable to total more than seventeen points for the season, one behind Magpies current total. Reaching safety now means Magpies can play their last game at Chippenham without any great pressure on them although they will still be playing for a possible highest ever final position. They could finish as high as fifth if results go their way and they win at Chippenham, they could still finish as low as ninth if they lose at Chippenham.
The mid-week games couldn't have been worse for Magpies as not only did Fowlmere win against Oakington but Falcons suffered a first defeat of the season at home to Bar Hill. Magpies secretary Chris Beament went to watch the Fulbourn Sports game with Exning and left that knowing a third result had gone against his club but later in the day the news came through that Fowlmere had lost to Ashwell and that was enough to guarantee Magpies Senior Division football for next season. The battle to avoid relegation is now a straight fight between Fowlmere and Exning with the game between the two now all but deciding the outcome. Exning need only to avoid defeat in the game to be sure of staying up whereas Metals need a win and then for Exning to fail to win at home to Quy in their last game.
